Inverurie is an ancient Royal Burgh with much to show that communities have existed their since earlier times .The Bronze age and castles are to be found in the vicinity as well as the sites of two decisive battles The Battle of Burra fought by Robert the Bruce against his rival Comyn in 1308 and the Battle of Harlow fought in defence of the East by Red Harlow against the Lord of the Isles in 1411. Bennachie

Bennachie

Inverurie is near the best loved hill in the Grampian Highlands, Bennachie, there are beautiful walks and wonderful views from the summit over the Garioch, the Buchan countryside, and towards the Cairngorm Mountains. Above: a picture of Bennachie. Approximately 400 million years ago a massive body of granite magma rose into part of the earth's crust which gradually cooled and crystallised to form a pink granite. Years of bad weather sculpted a terrain of massive jagged peaks, the last major reshaping of the range began about one million years ago when a huge sheet of ice gouged away substantial quantities of rock. Since then wind, rain and frost have shaped the hill into what we see today as Bennachie.
